5 Reasons Why a Flying Car Is a Bad Idea

5 Reasons Why a Flying Car Is a Bad Idea

When you hear the word "future" you most likely imagine huge cities with skyscrapers that cover the entire planet, supersonic trains, chips in heads, and flying cars. The idea of a car that flies in the sky like an airplane is so popular that most people don’t imagine the future without them. But do you really think that a flying car is such a great idea?

Below are 5 reasons why flying cars may be a bad idea.

1. High price

Money is the origin of all progress in our world. If a new idea cannot pay off, then it is unlikely to become a reality. It is possible to create a flying car, but it will not be able to compete with traditional cars. The complete set of all modern flying cars combines the best aviation technologies, nanotechnologies, robotics, and many other industries. This means that such cars are very expensive.

The predicted cost of the same TF-X from the Boston company Terrafugia varies from 300 to 400 thousand dollars. This is not the most expensive car in the world, but over 90 percent of the world’s population cannot afford it. The demand for flying cars will be low. Your 60 years grandfather is likely to lease a Range Rover rather than buy a flying car for 400 thousand dollars.

2. Safety

Unfortunately, car accidents are extremely common. Despite all the precautions, seat belts, and airbags, people often get into accidents. This does not mean that you need to abandon cars and ride horses because of the potential danger. The danger of traditional cars can be compensated by their convenience, ease of driving, and other benefits. Unlike traditional cars, flying ones don’t have such benefits.

Driving a flying car is more dangerous than driving a traditional one. A special program that completely excludes the human factor must drive your car to ensure safety. Of course, everyone knows the autopilots of planes and the Tesla autopilots. But these programs are not suitable for flying cars. At least for now. The widespread appearance of air vehicles can lead to chaos in navigation and many fatal accidents.

3. Driving

A flying car is a complex machine and its operation requires a lot of knowledge and skills. It is a long and difficult process to retrain someone who drives a traditional car. It will be extremely hard to teach a person driving a small plane in a big city with a bunch of obstacles and problems. This complexity immediately reduces the desire to own such a car.

4. Traffic jams

There is already a big problem with overpopulation and traffic jams in multi-million cities. The situation can get worse in the distant future. Most people believe that flying cars can solve this problem and prevent traffic jams. But there is a reason why flying cars cannot solve this issue. It will be impossible to transfer everyone to flying. Even if all drivers will change their traditional cars to flying ones, there are millions of them. All traffic jams will simply transfer into the air.

The best way to solve the issue of traffic jams is public transport. It is easier, more convenient, and efficient to transfer everyone to underground trains and mega elevators, which already can replace cars with proper logistics.

5. Even more stress

If you think that flying cars can solve issues like crazy traffic jams, sirens, accidents, and lack of car parking places then you most likely will be disappointed. All these factors that stress you will remain the same but with a small difference. They will stress you in the sky. More cars, more noise, and more accidents. The fact that cars flying over your head can crash and fall adds even more stress
