6 Easy Ways To Keep Your Teeth and Gums Healthy

6 Easy Ways To Keep Your Teeth and Gums Healthy

Many people want to have healthy teeth and gums. But some of them don’t know how to maintain proper oral care or simply don’t pay sufficient attention to the condition of their oral cavities. The reality is that oral health requires a lot of attention. In this article, we have gathered six easy ways to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

1. Brush your teeth properly

Regular and thorough tooth brushing is an essential part of proper oral hygiene. Tooth bruising helps remove dental plaque, food particles, and bacteria from your oral cavity. Poor oral hygiene can lead to an increased number of bacteria that consume food particles and dental plaque and ruin your teeth.

If you want to minimize your risk of some oral issues (like tooth decay, gum disease, tartar build-up, etc.), it is essential to brush your teeth twice a day for 2-3 minutes. But you should know that excessive tooth brushing can be harmful since you can scratch and remove your tooth enamel.

2. Don’t neglect dental floss

Even though many people think that tooth brushing is enough to clean your teeth, a toothbrush doesn’t always clean interdental space. Dental floss is a cord of thin filaments that is used to clean the space between your teeth from dental plaque and food particles. To keep your teeth clean, it is better to use dental floss at least once a day.

3. Maintain a healthy diet

The food and drinks you consume have a great impact on the condition of your oral cavity. Soft processed foods, sweets, acids, and many foods and drinks can worsen your oral health and contribute to certain health issues.

To keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy, you need to maintain a healthy diet. It is important to add more fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts, fatty fish, dairy products, and other healthy foods to your diet.

4. Drink a lot of water

Water is essential for your body. Insufficient hydration can cause many conditions including oral issues. For example, mouth dryness is a common condition that leads to bad breath, gum weakness, unpleasant taste in the oral cavity, and other unpleasant symptoms. Water helps remove bacteria and food particles from your mouth and increase salivation.

5. Get rid of bad habits

There are a lot of bad habits that can affect your oral health. Smoking contributes to bad breath, tooth discoloration, tartar accumulation, gum disease, and many other issues. Alcohol consumption decreases salivation and makes your mouth dry. The use of wooden toothpicks can lead to gum puncture and even teeth shifting.

Additionally, many people tend to use their teeth to open packages or bottles. This can result in tooth fracture and/or gum injury. It is essential to understand that it is easier to take a special tool and open a package rather than restore the broken tooth.

6. Visit the dentist regularly

Even if your teeth and gums seem healthy, it is essential to visit the best dentist at least twice a year. The point is that many oral issues can develop asymptomatically in the initial stage. For example, a cavity doesn’t cause any pain or other symptoms until it reaches the inner layers of the tooth. Timely and accurate treatment can help avoid severe toothache and other negative consequences of tooth decay.

The bottom line

It is important to understand that you are the only person who is responsible for your health. If you want to keep your teeth and gums healthy, you need to pay sufficient attention to your diet, oral hygiene, and your habits.
