Pros and Cons of Electric Cars You Should Know

Pros and Cons of Electric Cars You Should Know

The key difference between an electric car and a standard car is the use of an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. This feature also draws the need for a different energy source, a different transmission design, and an arrangement of car parts that naturally affect consumer qualities.

If you decided to buy or lease a car, you should understand that a vehicle should meet most of your requirements. It is also important to know that if you will choose an electric car, you should have the opportunity to charge it near the house. In this article, we gathered the most common pros and cons of electric cars you should know.

Pros of electric cars

The cost of maintenance and fuel is significantly lower than the cost of a classic car. According to the approximate estimates, electricity costs less then combustible fuel (gasoline and diesel fuel). The difference is slightly reduced if the car uses gas instead of gasoline or diesel fuel. In addition, transport tax and parking privileges are being introduced for owners of electric vehicles more actively.

The electric car breaks less often, which means that the risk of a sudden stop with a broken car is lower. Moreover, there are fewer breakdowns because there are simply fewer parts that can fail.

Electric cars require less maintenance and its volume is also less. There is no need to change the oil and filter in the engine after a certain mileage. There is also no need to change an engine air filter. Maintenance includes changing the oil in the gearbox, brake fluid, brake pads, discs, and replacing the cabin filter.

The electric car is safer. Due to the lack of heavy and voluminous internal combustion engines and gearboxes in front, the risk of injuries in road accidents is much lower.

Electric cars are less harmful to the environment because they don’t burn fuel or release exhaust gases and soot into the atmosphere. Despite the fact that pollution remains due to the rubber used in tires and electric cars can’t be called absolutely harmless and green, they still are more friendly to the environment than other cars.

The car is much quieter because the engine works almost silently. However, you still can hear the rustling of tires on the asphalt, the external environment, and a light sound of an electric engine in some models.

If in ordinary cars the ICE resource runs out, in electric vehicles degrades the battery. However, At a range of about 200,000 miles with proper use, the battery capacity will decrease by about 20 percent. Have you ever thought about what will happen to the ICE of a modern small car with such a mileage?

Cons of electric cars

Power reserve limits. In a regular car, gasoline can be quickly poured into the gas station and you move on. In the case of an electric car, even if you arrive at the gas station, considerable time must elapse to replenish the power reserve. Hybrid cars still don’t have such a  disadvantage.

A long time of charging. Despite the fact that new electric cars can be charged for the most part up to 80 percent in 40 minutes, this is still not five minutes required to fill fuel at a gas station.

High cost compared to gasoline and diesel vehicles. The new electric car is more expensive than a similar car with ICE.

Reduced power reserve in winter. Due to the inclusion of heating the cabin, steering wheel, and seats, the cruising range is reduced by an average of 25-30 percent at low temperatures.
